Do I need a special permit to use a roll-off dumpster?

Because roll-off dumpsters are quite large, many people assume they need some sort of permit to be able to attain one. The truth is, however, that unless you are placing a roll-off dumpster on public property, you likely won’t need a special permit to have one, especially if you're planning to leave the roll-off container on your own property (i.e. a driveway or a yard). Some places require permits, though, regardless of where you place the roll-off dumpster so it’s important to check with your local city or town hall just in case.

Permit procedure

If you plan to place your dumpster on public property, or on questionable private property, it’s important to make sure you don't need a special permit to do so.  Roll-off dumpsters are big and bulky so often times permission is required if you want to store them on a location that is not technically your property.

Getting a permit for temporary roll-off dumpster placement is not difficult; however attempting to place dumpsters in restricted areas without one could prove costly. Your local city or town hall will have information regarding permits and will gladly help you attain one if necessary. It’s in your best interest to do the research ahead of time, or ask your roll-off dumpster supplier.

It is the same everywhere that any container placed on a street is required to have a permit. It is public property and therefore requires the permission of that city. Not to mention, placing large roll-off dumpsters in certain areas could be dangerous and cause unfortunate accidents.

Dumpster Delivery

In regards to roll-off dumpster delivery, most cities require that a permit be obtained. Some cities require the permit to be acquired by you, the customer, whereas other cities may require the roll-off dumpster provider to get the necessary permits. Either way, it’s your responsibility to make sure the permits have been taken care of so you can ensure all rules are being followed.

Once you have gotten all the necessary permits taken care of, the roll-off trucks will carefully deliver the dumpsters to the location of your choosing. The roll-off truck will raise its hydraulically operated bed while the roll-off dumpster slowly descends until it’s on the ground. To lower the container, a cable is used for added safety. After you are done with the roll-off dumpster and the waste container is loaded, the roll-off truck will pull the filled container back into its place on the truck and take it to be dumped. This whole process from permit approval to waste pick up is quick and easy, especially if you have the help of a reliable roll-off dumpster supplier like Nix Tank.
